Our Responsibility: Pleasure

What I considered fun or entertaining has changed as I have matured. Experiences that once gave me pleasure in my 20’s could send me over the edge of sanity in my 40’s.  For instance, nowadays, being in a crowded club in Miami, listening to house music until 4am would be a technique to torture me if I were captured by North Koreans to get classified information from me! Whereas, BACK IN THE DAY… this was my definition of an evening well spent!

It has become of the utmost importance for me to reframe and give shape to what experiences are pleasurable and joyful in the life I have now. Being a mother of three, my time is divided. I often feel pulled in so many different directions, it leaves little time for fun. Those carefree moments are harder to come by in the hectic routine of my life. Yet consciously seeking out ways to nourish this aspect of my soul has become one of my most valued spiritual practices.

“IF YOU DON’T FIND WAYS TO SEEK JOY, JOY WON’T SEEK YOU!”

It is our sole responsibility to the most sacred part of ourselves to define and redefine what inspires us, encourages us, and gives us joy. If you don’t find ways to seek joy, joy won’t seek you! No matter how many valid excuses we make up in our minds, we are being neglectful or dare I say abusive to ourselves when give up that aspect of our lives. The result of this neglect can show up as depression or entanglement in unhealthy relationships. Bringing levity and light into your life is a solo job, it is no one else’s responsibility but our own. Take ownership in that. Hopefully as we are evolving, changing and expanding so are the experiences that give us pleasure. Finding ways to rejoice in the day that God has made is our thank you to Spirit for opening our eyes every morning. It may be as small as taking the time to watch the sun set or playing a game of cards. Creating these moments are vital to living a healthy life.

“FINDING WAYS TO REJOICE IN THE DAY THAT GOD HAS MADE IS OUR THANK YOU TO SPIRIT FOR OPENING OUR EYES EVERY MORNING!”

How will you rejoice in this day that God has made? No excuses. No delays. Let joy show up in and through everything you do! Find moments throughout the day to enjoy your life. And let’s talk about it!
